JULIE PERROT-REDOBANA

I’m a photographer and ceramicist. I founded Amour Amour, a ceramic studio, five years ago

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE/WORKING PROCESS ?

My creative process is really instinctive. I wish I could say I have incredible artistic references, that I start from a sketch and everything is thoroughly thought out, but that’s not the case. Things come together gradually.

If I’m working on a more artistic piece, I usually begin with a shape in mind and try to bring it to life in clay, either by hand-building or wheel-throwing. Most of the time, it doesn’t turn out exactly as planned, so I adapt it to what my hands can do in that very moment. If it ends up being a one-off piece, that’s great and if I need to reproduce it, I’ll use the first version as a reference to recreate it. I love sitting at the wheel with a ball of clay, not knowing what I’m going to make, and seeing a surprise piece emerge. It’s probably something I wouldn’t have created if I had overthought it. As for functional pieces, the process is definitely more precise, weight, size, shape, but still, nothing is really drawn out. I’d actually love to take drawing classes and have sketchbooks full of ideas one day.

IS THERE A PARTICULAR PROJECT YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US ?

I recently shaped tinted clay steles for the display windows of Apoticari’s main space — a skincare house born in Auvergne. Designed as sculptural pedestals, they present the products like cairns you might come across on hiking trails or while gathering wild plants. A nod as well to clay, the iconic raw material of Le Puy-en-Velay

HOW DOES YOUR ACTIVITY INFLUENCE THE WAY YOU DRESS ?

On a daily basis, my clothes are mostly functional. Winters at the studio can be pretty harsh, so my main concern is staying warm. But as soon as the weather gets nicer, I ditch the fleece and heattech layers and add a bit more fun to my wardrobe. I get stained a lot, yet I don’t really have a separate set of studio clothes, that’s my fancy side showing.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CLOTHES ?

I absolutely love clothes and at the same time, over the years, I’ve also learned to let go of most of them, keeping only the ones I truly adore. For the past ten years or so, my everyday uniform has been jeans and a white (or black) T-shirt. I have a deep love for masculine pieces, oversized cuts that fall just right, the perfect denim texture and shade, and that ideal crewneck T-shirt thick, structured, not quite beige, not quite white. Naturally, I’m drawn to workwear, clothes I feel comfortable in, softened and shaped by time.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CÈUCLE PIECE AND WHY ?

One is definitely not enough for me, so I’ll name two: the Chapter 1 beige denim wrap skirt and the Chapter 3 jacket. The way they fall is just incredible.

IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE CÈUCLE IN 3 WORDS ?

Timeless, Elegant and Ethical .

Comfort, Sharp details, Elegant
