Hi Cèucle. I'm a fashion journalist born in Guadeloupe (West Indies) and based in Paris. I write about fashion, design, culture, lifestyle and society, using an intersectional approach to connect the dots, for various media including GQ France, Mixte, Numéro, ODDA, Stylist, and Time Out. For two years, I was editor-in-chief of PAUL.E magazine (fka Paulette), where we aimed to spotlight emerging and established talent in the pages of a magazine as beautiful as it is intelligent. Attentive to both emerging and experienced talents, I've been a juror for the Grands Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris, as well as a juror for the ASVOFF Festival for 3 consecutive editions, including the upcoming one.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE/WORKING PROCESS ?
As an independent writer for a range of publications, I draw inspiration from fashion and cultural news, what I see on social media, and what my friends and colleagues discuss, to come up with interesting topics. I pay particular attention to the angle from which I enter these conversations, as well as to the didactic and edgy feel to the topics I write about. I also like to take an uninhibited approach to certain subjects, to take the readers where they wouldn't naturally go.
IS THERE A PARTICULAR PROJECT YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US ?
Recently, I organized two events celebrating Creole culture and all the creative effervescence and genius that emerge from the crossroads between African, European and native cultures, whether in the Caribbean basin and its coasts, or in the Indian Ocean, including the overseas territories of Oceania. Creole In Fashion and Creole In Film are two events from the same project, highlighting authentic, intimate, diverse and universal stories and narratives told by members of the Creole diaspora.
HOW DOES YOUR ACTIVITY INFLUENCE THE WAY YOU DRESS ?
As a fashion journalist, I think it's essential to enjoy dressing up. If I don't, who will? Being in contact with young fashion designers allows me to appreciate the references and societal movements that inspire their collections. I like to support this emerging fashion scene by buying their clothes and accessories, or by wearing their looks at fashion week to take them on a journey through the streetstyle photos taken by photographers and media from all over the world.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CLOTHES ?
I have a fairly emotional relationship with clothes. I dress according to my mood, the mood of my day, what I want to achieve or what message I want to convey. I put a lot of nostalgia into the clothes and the accessories I wear, because they're often linked to a moment, a period in my life, a memory, a trip or a person.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CÈUCLE PIECE AND WHY ?
I think my favorite piece is the Skirt Chapter 1 Black. There are a thousand ways to wear it: it can be adapted to a multitude of outfits. Its cut, material and style make every look unique.
IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE CÈUCLE IN 3 WORDS ?
Timeless, Elegant and Ethical .
