CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE/WORKING PROCESS ?
As I wear many hats, my work process varies from one project to another, but it's always based on one thing: listening. Whether I'm preparing an interview or a DJ set, I always start by either listening to the musical project of the artist I'm receiving, or by listening to the tracks I want to play for the set in question. From there, I try to create connections, find angles and tell a story, through words or songs. I also attach a great deal of importance to intuition: I work a lot on the basis of feeling, and so I allow myself to leave room for the unexpected, for emotions.
IS THERE A PARTICULAR PROJECT YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US ?
In 2019, I created @dna.magazine: a medium on Instagram, on which I gave a voice to artists from the rap and R&B scenes (my scenes of choice). I thought of it as a space to highlight the music that drives me, and the artists who are shaking up these genres. I've been lucky enough to interview names like Erika de Casier, Yaya Bey, Rico Nasty, Bonnie Banane, as well as Rodney Jerkins, who told me how he produced Destiny's Child's iconic “Say My Name”. In 2022, I had to put this project on hold, due to lack of time; but as I write these lines, I feel like relaunching this baby... so, stay tuned :)
HOW DOES YOUR ACTIVITY INFLUENCE THE WAY YOU DRESS ?
As I'm often involved in a form of representation as part of my work (whether in interviews with artists, or on stage, in front of an audience for my DJ sets), I need my clothes to give me a certain assurance, a form of presence. But I also - and above all - I need to feel comfortable, as I sometimes start my days early in the morning in front of a microphone and finish them late at night in a club. So I'm constantly juggling these two notions when it comes to dressing for my day-to-day life, and I like to move just as much in an oversized outfit with a good pair of sneakers as I do in a corset, perched on high heels (as long as they don't hurt my feet, obviously ! ).
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CLOTHES ?
I've always loved clothes. I spend a lot of time at thrift stores and small designers, trying to find strong pieces to, I think, assert my personality. I don't consider myself extravagant, but I think my wardrobe helps me to reveal myself. I'd also say that my relationship with clothes has evolved over time: as a teenager, I tended to accumulate a lot (like many of us, I imagine). Today, I select with care, always asking myself if the piece really represents me, and if it's going to last me over time.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CÈUCLE PIECE AND WHY ?
At the moment, I wear the CHAPTER 4 MAXI BAG almost daily: it allows me to carry everything I need (my computer, my sports gear, my headphones...), from morning to night. But I also have a big crush on the CHAPTER 1_DENIM BLANCHE skirt, which is insanely elegant..
IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE CÈUCLE IN 3 WORDS ?
Refined, comfortable, timeless: everything I love about clothes.
