NEWIN BOKHARI

I am a journalist and host. I love telling stories, understanding people, what’s around me, and creating. I often have ideas that I turn into concepts. I co-founded the media O-rigines in 2020, which I have since let fly the nest so that I can focus on my three roles: journalist, host and creative.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE/WORKING PROCESS ?

People have always inspired me. Ever since I was little, I have had boundless curiosity and no taboos, which drives me to get to know the people I meet in depth and engage in numerous discussions. I thrive on these exchanges, which help me to create, tell stories, and understand. For me, it is much more powerful to recount real-life experiences than to simply rely on figures or general information. That's why I love talking about people, especially through topics that fascinate me and animate my daily life. Music, and rap in particular, is a perfect tool for exploring representations and experiences; psychology helps me understand human beings; and fashion helps me understand confidence and self-esteem. I like to find meaning in everything I'm passionate about, even if sometimes I create just for fun, to bring a touch of lightness—because that's also what makes us diverse.

IS THERE A PARTICULAR PROJECT YOU'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US ?

I'm not the type to make choices easily, so you've got me stumped! But two projects immediately come to mind. The most recent is my presentation for Les Flammes ceremony, an incredible and stimulating experience that allowed me to combine my work as a host—which I enjoy and find fulfilling and my job as a journalist covering social issues, and my passion for music and the art of rap. The second project is  “La Lettre”, a video project where public figures write a letter to their younger selves going through trauma, all told in an artistic style inspired by Sin City, a film that marked my youth. My creative freedom, combined with my desire to democratize psychology and encourage people to speak freely, makes this project a key moment in my career, but also a deeply personal one.

HOW DOES YOUR ACTIVITY INFLUENCE THE WAY YOU DRESS ?

Being a host has helped me embrace my femininity even more. It has influenced me above all to be bold and assert my presence. I am no longer afraid to assert myself, I no longer apologize for being there because my work in front of the camera inevitably has an impact on how I present myself to the world. The goal behind my work as a host is that I need people to hear and understand me, but for that, I need to catch their attention and clothing is a good tool for achieving this goal.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CLOTHES ?

The way I dress has always allowed me to send a message to the world around me. For me, even if the connection may seem slight, it can have a huge impact on self-esteem and self-confidence, which has been the case for me. It's a way for me to accept myself, reveal myself, and give myself the energy I want to have at key moments. Because the clothes I wear really reflect my emotions.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE CÈUCLE PIECE AND WHY ?

My favorite piece is the Curved Pant Chapter 4 because I find it both feminine and masculine. They're exactly the kind of piece I can wear in any mood or context, with heels or sneakers. They're adaptable, and that's kind of what I am, at least I think so, someone who adapts, so this piece reflects that idea.

IF YOU HAD TO DESCRIBE CÈUCLE IN 3 WORDS ?

Quality, beautiful, timeless.
